GCSE Paper Revision Tips by an Experienced GCSE Tutor

Most of the Students are keen to know how they can revise to get high scores in GCSE exam especially for the Calculator paper which is generally assumed easier but it’s not all about using calculator only. Here are a few tips for students to pass their GCSE paper with a comprehensive revision.

Your approach matters more than the solution:
Always remember, examiners are not trying to discover another solution book for the papers rather they value your approach to solve the questions. This is the key to get good marks especially in numerical papers. Being a GCSE student you should be careful about answering because sometimes even a single decimal place can cause wining or loosing marks.

Haste Makes Waste; especially in Mathematics
Even if you are pretty sure about the answer as you’ve already solved a similar question last night before the exam, still don’t start answering rapidly. Putting extra time and focus on the particulars of a question can give you another chance to secure your marks. Hurriedness can cause a student wasting precious marks which he / she could get by answering sensibly.

Learn the Calculator Signs Thoroughly
Once a senior GCSEtutor in London was sharing his yearly experience and none of the listeners could argue when he said “most of the students get calculator but they remain unable to learn its signs and their functions completely. It is a fact though. Take it as a caution as well.

Let the examiner know how you derived answers
If you are habitual of solving questions using calculator, still don’t forget to show workings on the paper because these will let the examiner know how you got the right answer. Besides this, workings will let you double check your answer because you’ll be verifying each of the steps twice. All the seasoned GCSE tutors recommend this strategy from years.

Formula Sheet is not useless
Formula sheet on the paper with formulas for quadratics, cones etc. is not purposeless. Try using it wherever it applies. This is a hidden treasure and you can learn how to use it with practice.

Trust Your Calculator
Getting an answer after a long calculation and then using it for further calculations is always recommended as a wise decision. Those students who try to put the answer found manually may miss cent per cent accuracy; besides this, omitting or misplacing just a single figure can make huge difference. Even after writing down your answers, check these again to stay away from losing marks. Be careful!
